Sportsmoneymanagers.com Staff Writer Mike Brodksy The Tar Heels of North Carolina will win the NCAA Tournament for many reasons this season. 1) When you look at previous teams who have won the tournament it starts with a balance of scoring between the team. No player in the starting lineup averages less than 10.9 pts/game. 2) The Tar Heels have a mixture of veteran leaders that have been through the ups and downs of an NCAA Tournament. In most cases, teams that come out winning the title have a group of guys who have been there before, and the Tar Heels went to Final Four last season. 3) UNC has great guard play that can carry a team to an NCAA Championship. ACC Player of Year, Ty Lawson is coming off his best season as a Tar Heel and is considered one of the best PGs in America. When he went down with his toe injury, UNC just did not seem to run like the well oiled machine it is capable of. When he came back for the LSU game, you saw firsthand just what he is capable of. The other guard in the starting lineup, Wayne Ellington has been playing his best basketball the past month or so. He has scored in double figures in all but 3 games this season and is shooting as well as any player in the country. 4) UNC has an abundance of big men that can match up with anybody. When you look at all the teams in the country, none may have as many big men that are capable of producing like the Tar Heels. Tyler Hansbrough, Deon Thompson, and Ed Davis make for a great nucleus of big men that can play the game. There are teams like Oklahoma, Pitt, UCONN with solid big men, but they do not have as many guys as UNC. A team like North Carolina can throw numerous different men at the opposing players big men that will give them an advantage. 5) Solid bench play can help when it comes to winning the NCAA Tournament. Had Marcus Ginyard been able to play, the bench of North Carolina would be terrific but is still solid. They have Ed Davis who is one of the best young freshmen left in the tournament. When you think back to UNC’s last title they had a man by the name of Marvin Williams who was the key freshman ingredient that put UNC over the top. Could it be Ed Davis this year? To go along with Davis, UNC has a defensive specialist in Bobby Frasor who has veteran leadership as well as Tyler Zeller and Larry Drew who are also freshman. When you look at all these different facts, it is hard to pick against the Tar Heels this season. When you think of Championship talent you look at UNC. They also have a coach by the name of Roy Williams who is regarded as one of top coaches in Division I basketball.
