Every NBA playoff team took to the floor this past weekend in their opening
playoff contest and pro basketball betting aficionados everywhere should be
jumping for joy as each matchup uncovered a lot of information about what NBA
bettors can expect over the remainder of each series. Nuggets 126 Jazz 113 - The Nuggets looked very determined against a
very good Utah team to cover the NBA betting line as a 5.5-point home favorite
on Saturday night. Now that the Jazz have lost center Mehmet Okur and forward
Andrei Kirilenko will be at less than full strength, I’m thinking the Jazz could
get closed out in five games – six games tops.
This recap of each NBA opening postseason contest will give NBA gambles just the
insight they will need heading into each series’ respective Game 2.
Cavaliers 96 Bulls 83 - I don’t think the opening contest in this series
told NBA bettors much they didn’t know with the Cavaliers being the far superior
team to Chicago in this series. While I picked the Bulls to cover the NBA
betting line as an 11-point road underdog and the team fell just short of
reaching the goal, I am confident of Chicago’s ability to al least play with the
Cavs and still manage to cover the NBA betting line more often than not before
folding in five games.
Celtics 85 Heat 76 - The Celtics put the clamps on the Heat in the fourth
quarter to beat the Heat 85-76 on Saturday and cash in for pro basketball
betting backers as a 4.5-point home favorite. Still, I’m not expecting the C’s
to do much after dispatching Miami and suspect they may not cover the NBA
betting line very much in doing so. Boston offense can best be described as
stagnant and their defense while still well above average, is nowhere near the
quality level it was when the team won the title two seasons ago.
Hawks 102 Bucks 92 - The Bucks fell just short of covering the pro
basketball betting line as an 8.5-poinr road underdog against the Hawks despite
getting another jaw-dropping performance from rookie point guard Brandon
Jennings who scored a game-high 34 points. No Andrew Bogut means the Bucks don’t
really have a chance to pull off the upset, although I think they will come
through for betting backers at over 50 percent in this series.
Magic 98 Bobcats 89 - The Magic – and Jameer Nelson in particular – went
crazy from long range to beat the Bobcats and their fantastic defense. The
Bobcats (+10) and the Under (188) both played out for bettors just as I
predicted and I expect Charlotte to continue to give the Magic all they can
handle before eventually bowing out in five games.
Lakers 87 Thunder 79 - The Lakers man-handled the young Thunder and
covered the pro basketball betting odds by a half-point as an 8-point home
favorite. It could be me, but I don’t think Kevin Durant is going to play as
poorly as he did in Game 2 and the young Thunder will have overcome their
obvious case of first-time playoff nerves, to likely cover the NBA betting line
more often than not against L.A. before bowing out to the defending champs in
five games.
Mavericks 100 Spurs 94 - The score in this one may look close, but the
game sure wasn’t – just as I expected with an apparently determined Mavericks
team facing a Spurs ballclub that has been wildly inconsistent (unless you’re
talking about underachieving) this season. It may be early in this series, but I
think NBA betting enthusiasts can bank on the Mavericks, who covered the NBA
betting line as a 4-point home favorite, to advance out of this one – in five or
six games if Dallas doesn’t lose focus on the road.
Blazers 105 Suns 100 - The Blazers upset the Suns to steal Game 1 and
cash in for NBA betting backers as an 8.5-point road underdog and record their
first road playoff win since 2003 in the process. I didn’t think the Blazers
would be able to keep up with Phoenix in this series without Brandon Roy, but
their Game 1 win has me rethinking the remainder of this series with the Blazers
now having home court advantage.
