Oklahoma ’s phenomenal defense will take
on the run happy offense of Stanford in
this year’s Brut Sun Bowl.
For Stanford Cardinal, they are led
by Heisman Trophy runner-up, Toby
Gerhart, an All-American running back.
On the season, Gerhart, a junior, led
college football in several categories,
including total carries (311), total
yards (1736) and rushing touchdowns
(26). Unfortunately for Gerhart, while
was surrounded by a solid passing game
most of the season, he’ll have no such
luck against the Sooners. The reason is, quarterback Andrew
Luck, a redshirt freshman originally
from Texas, will likely sit out this
game after getting surgery following the
season. That will put things in the
hands of back-up Tavita Pritchard, who
started last season, but has only thrown
three passes in all of 2009. As for their defense, the Cardinal
have struggled this year, allowing 26
points and 396 yards of offense per
game. They’ve been especially weak in
pass defense, where they’re ranked 105
th of 120 FBS schools. Oklahoma on the other hand, will beat
you with one of the top defenses in
college football. They ranked in the top
10 in total defense, scoring defense,
and rushing defense, an important
competent for this game. Defensive
tackle Gerald McCoy could be a top five
pick in this year’s draft. On offense though, the Sooners
struggled mightily this year, especially
without quarterback Sam Bradford. In his
place stepped Landry Jones, who
struggled, throwing 14 interceptions on
the year. Oklahoma does have a dangerous
running attack however, featuring
DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown, who
combined for close to 1400 yards on the
year.
