he Philadelphia Phillies bats have gone silent of late, as is evident by hitting .197 and scoring just 32 runs (3.2 RPG) in their last 11 games. Their opponents tonight the Washington Nationals, have struggled on offense all season long scoring 3 runs or less 68 times , and are hitting just .214 as a team during a current 10 game losing streak. Im predicting both these squads struggles continue tonight as they send two capable pitchers to the mound to face each other.
The Phillies will send righty Joe Blanton (1-0, 4.00 ERA) who is in a bounce back mode after allowing 4 runs in his last outing, that after allowing only 3 ERS in his previous 3 starts. It must be noted that the Nationals have hit right handers for a lowly .234 this season.
Meanwhile, the Nationals will return fire with Jason Bergman ( 2-9, 4.51 ERA). The former Rutgers standout, is off his worst start of the season last time out, and will be very motivated to get some redemption here this evening. The big right hander has allowed 2 Ers or less in 7 of his L/10 starts and repeat performance is on his agenda this evening against a Philly team that has batted just .246 against right handers.
Final notes & Key Trends: Under is 8-2-2 in WAS last 12 road games. Under is 8-3-1 in PHI last 12 overall. Under is 5-1-1 in Nationals last 7 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Under is 7-2 in Bergmanns last 9 road starts vs. a team with a winning record . Under is 5-0 in Phillies last 5 home games . Under is 4-0 in Phillies last 4 home games vs. a right-handed starter.

Meanwhile, his pitching opponent, from the Pirates Ian Snell (4-10, 5.91 ERA) has had problems finding the strike zone all season long , and when he does have his control, lefty hitters are smashing him for a .332 BA , while right handed hitters are clocking him for .309 BA. If he he falters, which Im betting he does he is backed by a bullpen that owns a ugly 5.39 road ERA. Snell has been particularly vulnerable on the road where he has garnered a 7.83 ERA and 1-7 record, in 13 unlucky starts. The Caesar Rodney High School thrower, DE, is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in four starts against St. Louis this season.
Needless to say, this one has one sided blowout written all over it.
Final notes & Key Trends: Loppers team when he starts is 6-0 SU this season against poor base running foes like the Pirates that average 0.5 or less stolen bases per game , winning those contests by an average of 5 RPG. Play on the Cardinals -1.5 runline

Blue Jays starting pitching staff has been tough on opposing batting orders of late posting a 1.85 ERA over its last six contests , 5 of which the Blue Jays have won . There looks to be more of that tough stuff, on the agenda tonight , as AJ Burnett ( 15 -9,4.67 ERA) goes to the hill to extend a current 9-2 run and 3.73 ERA in his L/11 starts, including recent 3-0 mark along with a 1.23 ERA in his last four starts versus the Yankees, including two wins during his current campaign. It must be noted that the right hander has won a career-high seven straight home starts, posting a 2.89 ERA. The Jays opposition tonight, the visiting NY Yankees will send a starter in Darrell Rasner (5-9, 5.18), who is at the opposite end of the proverbial performance spectrum as is evident by a 1-5 record along with a bloated 6.80 ERA in his last nine outings. With the Jays bats starting to heat up, after a 15 run output against the Red Sox last time out, Rasner and the Yankees look to be in trouble, in this spot.
Final notes & Key Trends: The Yankees have lost 15 of their L/24 road games against a good bullpen with an ERA of 3.75 or better this season. The Yankees have lost 6 straight road games by an average of 4 RPG when Rasner starts. AJ Burnett when he starts has seen his team go 16-4 L/20 at home with a money line of -100 to -150 . Play on the Blue Jays

Jul 21, 2008 |
The Buckeyes start their 2008 campaign in search of completing at least one hat-trick but not wanting to complete another. Back-to-back losses in the BCS Championship games obviously hurts and a repeat visit for the third consecutive year will head the agenda. Clearly the one hat-trick Tressel won't want on his CV will be three consecutive BCS Championship losses.
So is all the hype coming ...

| Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles (MLB) - Aug 20, 2008 7:05 PM EDT |
|
| Play: Total: 11/-105 Over Play Title: |
|
The Boston Red Sox starting pitcher today against the Baltimore Orioles ,Clay Bucholz (2-8, 6.35 ERA) will make his first start since August 10 . In his last outing the big Texan went just 3 innings , allowing 3 Hrs in an eventual 6-5 loss to the White Sox. This kid has been a real train wreck this season, and I don't think the extended rest will help him. In my humble opinion he should really be down in the minors honing his skills. The 24 year old right hander during a current nine game run ( eight starts) has garnered a 0-6 record along with a ugly looking 8.62 ERA. I think the BoSox coaching staff, has allowed him to go this far, because of the no hitter he pitched in his first major league start last season ,against todays opponent the Baltimore Orioles. That was than and this now, and considering his current form, Im expecting the Os explosive offense to unload on him in this spot, much like they did back on July 11, when they compiled 5 hits, four runs and five walks i n 5 innings for a 7-3 win. Meanwhile, the Orioles will return fire, with a struggling hurler of their own, southpaw Chris Waters (1-0, 4.32 ERA). The Florida native also started out with a great effort in his mlb debut, shutting out a potent Angels lineup, but since than has not faired so well, failing to get past the fifth inning in his last two starts. The 5th round pick has allowed 15 hits and eight runs in his last 8 2/3 innings of work, and here today against a Boston offense that has averaged 7.2 RPG in their L/10 games I expect his problems will continue.
I know the linesmakers have attached a fairly high number to this tilt, but rightly so, as two efficient offenses, tee off on two very hittable throwers and bullpens here in the launching pad known as Camden Canaveral. Look for an expect a big time slug fest here this evening.
Final notes & Key Trends; Bucholz owns a 8.18 ERA in 9 road outings this season. Over is 5-1 in Buchholzs last 6 road starts . Waters in his one home appearance has garnered a 13.50 ERA. Over is 44-18-4 in Orioles last 66 overall . Over is 10-1 in umpire Alfonso Marquezs last 11 apperances behind home plate. Play OVER

| Alex Smart Sports Rating System |
| A conservative and appropriate, amount would be one to two percent of your allocated bankroll and absolutely no more than three percent of your bankroll, for a majority of selections. In rare situations, an amount of 5% can be put in play. |
| |
| Alex Smart Sports Money Management |
| To be a successful and profitable sports bettor you must always have a long term goal or objective. Set that standard before your wagering campaign begins and set aside fairly substantial bankroll that uses a consistent incremental amount for the vast majority of your wagers.
A conservative and appropriate, amount would be one to two percent of your allocated bankroll and absolutely no more than three percent of your bankroll.
This might seem a little on the low side, but believe me, over the course of what will be a turbulent battle with the books to picks winners against the spread you will be happy that you practiced good money management and frugality.
The above guidelines do not take into consideration a combination of factors that will also help you along the way and I have included them below.
1. Consistently shop for your best possible lines (rogue lines) from the most reputable sources.
2. Stay disciplined and do not stray from recommended bankroll allocation on individual wagers. Chasing your wagers whether you are on a winning or losing streak is absolutely forbidden under my by betting methodology.
3. Always keep in mind that your bankroll is your life line (working capital) and must be treated the same way you would treat finances that are allocated for any business venture.
4. Buy off the hook on key numbers.
5. Understanding the importance and the art of middling.
6. Keep a record of all your wagers and results and use them as part of over all statistical data base.
These are some important factors that will help you in your quest for long term profits. I leave you with a thought from the late great Jimmy the Greek.
The house does not beat the player, it just gives him the opportunity to beat himself. |
